A better fit for pilots who want more than just a quick signoff

Whether you have fallen out of instrument currency, want a more structured path back to IFR flying, or simply want a more useful proficiency check, this service is designed to help you regain currency and fly with more confidence.

This is a good fit if...

  • You need to regain instrument currency under 14 CFR 61.57(d)
  • You want a calm, professional CFII who will structure the IPC clearly
  • You want help with approaches, holds, tracking, and IFR workflow
  • You want an IPC tailored to your aircraft, avionics, and current proficiency

What makes this different

Andrew approaches the IPC as a real IFR training event, not a checkbox. The goal is to help you leave current, more confident, and better prepared for the kind of instrument flying you actually do.

  • Structured IFR ground review before the check
  • Practical instrument instruction based on your goals
  • Honest coaching without unnecessary pressure
  • Strong focus on IFR proficiency, safety, and decision-making

What your IPC can include

An Instrument Proficiency Check is conducted under 14 CFR 61.57(d) and should be tailored to the pilot, aircraft, avionics, and current proficiency level. Most IPCs include both a ground component and a flight or simulator component.

Ground review

  • Review of IFR regulations, currency, and instrument procedures
  • Discussion of weather, charts, clearances, and IFR decision-making
  • Focus on your actual IFR flying, avionics, and weak areas
  • Opportunity to refresh procedures before getting in the airplane or simulator

Flight or sim portion

  • Approaches, holds, tracking, missed approaches, and IFR workflow
  • Partial panel, unusual attitudes, and instrument scan refinement as needed
  • Instruction geared toward confidence, not just completion
  • Logbook endorsement upon satisfactory completion

Common IPC questions

These are the questions most pilots ask before booking an Instrument Proficiency Check.

How long does an IPC take?+
Most IPCs take longer than a basic checkout because they include both a ground review and a flight or simulator portion. The exact time depends on your current proficiency, aircraft, avionics, and how much review you need before the check is complete.
Can we use my aircraft?+
Yes. Using your own aircraft is often the best option because the IPC becomes directly relevant to the airplane and avionics you actually fly. If a simulator or training device is appropriate, that may also be discussed ahead of time.
What if I am very rusty on instruments?+
That is common. The goal is not to rush you through an endorsement. If more work is needed, Andrew can log instruction and continue building your IFR proficiency until you are truly ready.
What should I bring?+
Bring your pilot certificate, photo ID, current medical, logbook, and aircraft documents if you are using your own airplane. Bring your EFB or iPad as well if that is part of your normal IFR workflow.
