A Western Massachusetts native who's been in love with flying since he was four years old — and has spent his career helping other pilots experience that same thing.
It started when he was four years old. Pilots let him sit in the cockpit. He got to push some buttons. That was it — he was done for. The kind of thing you either grow out of or don't. He didn't.
Andrew grew up in Western Massachusetts and spent his entire life here. He trained at KBAF — Barnes Municipal Airport in Westfield — and built his hours in the skies over the Connecticut River Valley he's known since childhood. When it came time to become an instructor, there wasn't much question about where he'd do it.
What he brings to instruction that most CFIs don't is a formal background in Psychology. He studied it at the undergraduate level specifically because he understood early that flying isn't just a physical skill — it's a cognitive one. How people process information, how they build mental models, how anxiety affects performance, how feedback lands differently depending on the learner. Understanding those things makes you a better instructor. It's the difference between repeating the correct procedure and actually figuring out why someone keeps making the same mistake.
He works with student pilots, rusty pilots, instrument students, and anyone preparing for a checkride. But if you ask him who he enjoys working with most, the answer is straightforward: student pilots working toward their private. There's something about watching someone solo for the first time — the moment the airplane lifts off and it's just them — that never gets old.
He holds CFI, CFII, AGI, and IGI certificates, a commercial pilot certificate with instrument rating, and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Aeronautics at Liberty University. He specializes in the PA-28 family and has significant experience with glass cockpit avionics including the G1000, G500, G5, and GNS430.

Rote memorization gets you through the written exam. Understanding gets you through the oral, the checkride, and every unexpected situation you'll face in the cockpit. Every session is built around the why, not just the what.
Every student comes in with different strengths and different gaps. The session goes to where you actually need help — not a generic review of everything, not topics you've already mastered. Targeted and efficient.
A Psychology background isn't a line on a resume — it's a different way of approaching instruction. How you process information, build mental models, and respond under pressure affects how you need to be taught. Andrew pays attention to that.
Rusty pilots, nervous students, pilots who've failed a written exam — everyone starts somewhere and everyone hits walls. The environment here is patient, honest, and focused entirely on helping you move forward.
From day one, Andrew made everything feel approachable and stress-free, even when learning some of the more challenging concepts. Training with him was one of the best decisions I've made.
He was always able to explain concepts so I could understand everything. Andrew was also very comforting whenever I needed him to be — which is so important in any instructor.
Andrew is extremely knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a CFI for any reason!
